📖 About the 28 Card Game (Gulan / Eripathettu)
28 — also written as Twenty Eight or Twentyeight, and known as Irupathiyettu or Thuruppu Gulan — is a beloved trick-taking card game from Kerala, India. Whether you search for it as "28 card game", "Kerala 28", or just "Gulan", this is the same classic game millions grew up playing. Played with 32 cards across 4 suits, teams of two face each other and bid for the right to choose trump. The Jack is the highest card in every suit — that's why it's called Gulan (trump)!
How it works: Four cards are dealt to each player. Based on these, players bid 14–28 points. The highest bidder chooses a trump suit and hides one trump card face-down. Four more cards are dealt, and the play begins. The bidding team must win at least their bid in points — Jacks are worth 3, Nines 2, Aces and Tens 1 each. If they succeed, they win; if they fail, the opponents score!
Scoring: Win a round to gain game points. First team to reach 12 game points wins the championship. But the real challenge? Win 10 championships in a row to be crowned 👑 King of the Table!
